Azerbaijani President: "They thought somebody would stop us"

"Armenia's purpose was to immortalize the status quo, not to return a handful of soil, protract the issue. They have carried out this throughout 30 years relying on their foreign patrons. They wanted to do this for 300 more years," said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in a speech during his visit to Kalbajar.

The head of state has noted that Armenia considered that it would benefit from this situation. 

"They considered that Azerbaijan would not liberate its territories through a war. They thought somebody would stop us, that their patrons would have an influence on us, would put pressure on us. However, they did not know that the entire Azerbaijani people lived with one purpose to put an end to the occupation, chase the enemy away from our lands and return to our ancestral lands, and we have returned. We have returned by destroying the Armenian army, by stomping on the Armenian fascism, punishing the Armenian executioners, taking revenge for our martyrs. We have returned. Today, we are standing here and will stand forever!", the Azerbaijani President has underlined.
